About the Gateway Arts Concerts

Shrewsbury and District Arts Association (SADAA), which was founded some 40 years ago and is a registered charity, is based at The Gateway Education and Arts Centre in Chester Street, Shrewsbury SY1 1NB.

SADAA’s aim is to support the arts in the Shrewsbury area, in particular by the promotion of local artists, although well-known national artists are also featured.

Through its concert programme, SADAA organises monthly classical music recitals, usually at lunchtimes but also in the evenings and on Sundays, frequently using the wonderful Steinway concert grand piano which is situated at The Gateway.

At the same time, SADAA’s Art Panel mounts regular art exhibitions in Gallery 3 at The Gateway on a 6-week basis, featuring often challenging work.

SADAA also seeks to give financial support to other arts associations, which in the recent past have included the Shrewsbury Children’s Bookfest, Shrewsbury Theatre Guild, Shrewsbury Heritage Celebrations, Shrewsbury Jazz Network, Belle Vue Arts Festival and the Rainbow Film Festival.

One can also become a Friend of Gateway Arts: Friends are entitled to a discount on SADAA activities, to receive a regular newsletter, primarily giving information on forthcoming arts events, and to have the opportunity of making a direct financial contribution to the arts as promoted by SADAA.
